”The Torch Has Been Passed”: Obama Declares Kamala Harris Ready to Lead the Nation

In a powerful endorsement, Barack Obama told fellow Democrats in Chicago on Tuesday that “the torch has been passed” to Kamala Harris, signaling that the United States is ready for her to become president.

Amid thunderous applause, the former president praised Vice President Harris, stating, “Kamala Harris is ready for the job. This is a person who has spent her life fighting for people who need a voice.” He further described her as “someone who sees you and hears you and will get up every single day and fight for you.”

In a memorable moment that evoked his own historic campaign, Obama led the crowd in chanting, “Yes she can,” drawing a direct parallel to his iconic “Yes we can” slogan.

Before Obama’s electrifying speech, Michelle Obama, the former first lady, also spoke passionately about Harris, declaring that “something magically wonderful is in the air.” Referring to Harris as “my girl,” she added, “It’s the contagious power of hope… hope is making a comeback.”

Harris’s husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, also took the stage, emphasizing her readiness and resilience. “She brings both joy and toughness to this task,” he said, adding, “At this moment in our nation’s history, she is exactly the right president.”

With Harris polling strongly and the party united, Democrats are confident in their ability to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election. The enthusiasm in Chicago echoed the energy of Obama’s 2008 campaign, with delegates officially nominating Harris as their candidate in a lively roll call.

Addressing the convention from Milwaukee, Harris expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you… see you in two days, Chicago,” as she prepared for her next campaign event. The choice of the 18,000-seat arena in Milwaukee, where Trump recently held the Republican National Convention, was a clear sign that Harris is drawing the same kind of crowds that have long been a hallmark of Trump’s rallies.
