STOP IT! Avoid Consuming Eggs with Tea or Coffee
Diet experts are cautioning against eating eggs alongside tea or coffee, as it may pose several health risks. They recommend waiting at least an hour between consuming the two.
While eggs and coffee each offer health benefits on their own, consuming them together can not only diminish these benefits but also lead to discomfort and dehydration. Dietician Priya Bansal explains that eggs are rich in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals, while coffee is known for its stimulating effects due to its high caffeine content.
However, Bansal notes that coffee contains tannins and polyphenols, which can interfere with the absorption of iron and calcium found in eggs. Experts suggest delaying your coffee or tea intake for at least an hour after eating eggs to avoid this issue.
Additionally, combining eggs and coffee may cause digestive problems, as both can increase gastric acid production, potentially leading to acid reflux, heartburn, or an upset stomach. Both eggs and coffee also have diuretic effects, which can lead to increased urination and, consequently, dehydration. To counteract this, it’s important to drink extra water, especially if you consume both together.
Moreover, Bansal warns that coffee can interfere with the absorption of certain medications, such as antibiotics or antacids, and consuming it with eggs could further disrupt this process, reducing the effectiveness of the medication.
