June 12: Tinubu Cancels Nationwide Broadcast

President Bola Tinubu has broken away from the tradition of nationwide broadcast in commemoration of Democracy Day.
Earlier, the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Democracy Day had rolled out a series of events to commemorate 26 years of unbroken democracy.
Among the programmes were: Presidential National Broadcast on June 12, 2025, at 7 a.m; the President’s address of a joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon; Public Lecture on Democracy Day Celebration at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. Time: 4 pm.
But in a statement late Wednesday, the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, announced a change to Tinubu’s schedule.
He said since the President would address a joint session of the National Assembly, there would be no need for the nationwide broadcast as he would deliver his Democracy Day address directly from the National Assembly chambers.
“Due to President Bola Tinubu scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled. President Tinubu will deliver his address from the National Assembly, ” Imohiosen said.
