HARDSHIP: House of Rep Announces Six-Month Basic Salary Pay Cut

In response to the economic hardships faced by millions of Nigerians, the House of Representatives has resolved to take a six-month pay cut, affecting only their basic salaries and not their significantly higher allowances.
The decision followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Ibrahim Isiaka (APC, Ogun) during Thursday’s plenary.
Isiaka emphasized the need to avert looming nationwide protests over economic hardship.
Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu proposed an amendment, suggesting the pay cut as a worthy sacrifice for the legislators to make.
The amended motion was adopted by the House when Speaker Abbas Tajudeen put it to a vote.
The pay cut will affect the lawmakers’ N600,000 monthly basic salaries.
