Explosion Rocks Imo Community, Leaves Soldier, NSCDC Officer Wounded

An explosion triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) has left a soldier and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) injured in Imo State, heightening fresh concerns over security in the South-East.
The incident, which occurred during a security operation, was reportedly caused by an IED planted along a route used by operatives. According to reports, the device detonated as the personnel advanced, leading to injuries on both officers.
Sources indicated that the operatives were part of ongoing efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and dismantle explosive threats. The blast underscores the persistent dangers faced by security forces engaged in clearing operations across volatile communities in the state.
A security source, speaking on the development, confirmed the nature of the attack, stating that it involved “an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)” which injured the personnel.
Both injured officers were said to have been evacuated for medical attention, while security agencies intensified surveillance and combing of the area to forestall further attacks.
The latest incident adds to a string of security challenges in Imo State, where authorities have continued operations against armed groups and the use of explosives targeting security formations.
