Efforts to Oust Ganduje as APC Chairman Intensify Amidst Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Ambitions
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up for a leadership change as the tenure of its national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, hangs in the balance.
Despite recent attempts to secure support from some APC governors, Ganduje’s removal is imminent, according to party sources.
Tegic Media reports that the party is seeking a replacement that aligns with its strategy for the 2027 general election, but the challenge of finding a credible successor has delayed the process.
President Bola Tinubu’s cautious approach has also contributed to the delay, as he seeks to maintain a strategic silence to avoid compromising his own position ahead of the election.
Tinubu’s concern is to secure more support for his victory in the next election, and he has convened a meeting with National Working Committee (NWC) members to discuss the matter. Once a suitable replacement is agreed upon, a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting will be called to seal Ganduje’s fate.
“The accused person will not attend the NEC meeting because they won’t want to disgrace him there. What is holding Ganduje’s removal is that they are looking for a credible person, once they decide on who, they will remove him immediately.
“The president has been too silent on the issue. He’s being too careful so he doesn’t ruin things for himself in the next election. Tinubu is trying to capture everywhere for the 2027 election so that he will get the majority vote at the end of the day, no matter what.
The president called for a meeting with the NWC members yesterday around 3 pm, but I do not know the outcome of the meeting,” the source said.
According to a party source, Ganduje’s position remains precarious despite efforts by four governors to show their support through a vote of confidence.
It is learnt that the APC NWC is divided over Ganduje’s removal. However, the source revealed that the president and governors are deeply involved in the matter and hold the real power.
It is learnt that once they agree on a suitable replacement, Ganduje’s fate will be sealed.
The decision of the party is to replace Ganduje with a candidate from the North Central zone, specifically a Christian from Nasarawa State.
