Court Orders Arrest of PDP Factional Chairman, Turaki Over Police‑Filed Case

A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, a factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after he failed to appear in court in a matter brought by the Inspector‑General of Police (IGP).

Presiding Judge U.P. Kekemeke, in a ruling on Thursday, said Turaki — a former minister — “has no justification not to appear before the court” in the case, which stems from charges filed by the police.

The police had initiated the one‑count charge against Turaki, alleging that he provided false information in a petition dated October 2022.

With Turaki absent from Thursday’s proceedings and no counsel representing him, the court directed that he be taken into custody to compel his appearance.

Efforts to secure Turaki’s presence at the hearing had stalled, leading the judge to conclude that issuing an arrest order was necessary to advance the case.

The development adds a fresh layer to the ongoing leadership tensions within the PDP, which has seen competing factions and legal battles over control of the party.
