BREAKING: US Donates 10,000 Mpox Vaccine Shots to Nigeria

The United States government has donated 10,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine to Nigeria to combat the mpox outbreak.

The vaccine, approved for preventing smallpox and mpox in adults, was officially handed over to Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, in Abuja. Prof Pate thanked the US government for the donation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in improving the well-being of Nigerians.

The Federal Ministry of Health recognizes the significance of addressing public health concerns, especially in a large population like Nigeria.

The donation is a significant aid to those in need, and the ministry looks forward to receiving more support. Mpox is a rare viral zoonotic infectious disease that occurs sporadically, primarily in remote villages of Central and West Africa. As of last Friday, Nigeria had recorded 40 confirmed cases of mpox out of 830 suspected cases across the country.
