ADC Kicks Against INEC Move, Alleges Political Pressure Over Leadership Delisting

The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark has rejected the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist its leadership, describing the action as flawed and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party dismissed INEC’s interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling on its leadership dispute, insisting the electoral body acted under external influence.

“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum even in the face of its relentless assault on all opposition parties,” the statement read.

The party further accused INEC of inconsistencies, arguing that its position contradicts both legal reasoning and established facts.

“INEC’s press statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason. We shall clarify these contradictions for all to see. What is clear, however, is that INEC has caved to pressure and has chosen to side with the government against the Nigerian people,” the statement added.

INEC had earlier announced that it would no longer recognise or engage with either faction of the ADC leadership following its review of the March 12 Court of Appeal judgment. The commission also said it would refrain from monitoring party activities until the Federal High Court resolves the dispute.

The crisis stems from a prolonged leadership tussle within the party, with rival factions laying claim to its national structure, prompting legal battles that have now drawn regulatory intervention.

Despite the development, the Mark-led faction said it is reviewing its options and will announce its next line of action, urging members and supporters to remain calm as events unfold.
