Iran-Linked Hackers Hacks FBI Director Kash Patel’s Email, Leak Personal Files
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that the personal email account of its director, Kash Patel, was compromised by a hacking group linked to Iran.
According to the bureau, “malicious actors” targeted Patel’s private email, prompting swift action to contain any potential fallout.
In a statement, the FBI said it had “taken all necessary steps to mitigate potential risks associated with this activity,” adding that the compromised information was not linked to official government operations.
The hacking group, identified as the Handala Hack Team, claimed responsibility for the breach and released what it said were personal materials from Patel’s account, including photos and documents.
Reports indicate that much of the leaked content consists of older, non-classified information, with emails and files dating back several years before Patel assumed office.
The incident comes amid heightened cyber tensions between the United States and Iran, with analysts warning of retaliatory digital attacks targeting high-profile American officials.
