SHAKE UP! IG Redeploys AIGs, CPs Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered a sweeping redeployment of senior officers across the Nigeria Police Force in what analysts see as a calculated move to tighten command efficiency and reposition leadership nationwide.

The redeployment, announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, involves Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs posted to key departments, formations, and state commands.

According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at strengthening the force’s operational structure and improving service delivery.

“The postings are in line with the Force’s commitment to an effective command structure and strategic deployment of personnel across commands, formations and departments,” the statement said.

Under the new arrangement, several AIGs were reassigned to critical units, including Research and Planning, Operations, Training and Development, and Community Policing, while others were deployed to zonal commands such as Lagos, Katsina, Maiduguri, and Makurdi.

Similarly, multiple Commissioners of Police were posted to state commands, including Jigawa, Oyo, Ogun, Delta, Ekiti, Adamawa, and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside strategic assignments at the Force Headquarters and specialised units.

The police high command said the reshuffle reflects a broader institutional push to align personnel with evolving security demands and enhance leadership capacity across the country.

Security observers note that such large-scale redeployments often signal an attempt to inject fresh oversight into critical commands, especially amid rising concerns over policing effectiveness and internal discipline.

The development also comes amid ongoing reforms within the force, with the IG emphasising professionalism, accountability, and improved service standards as central to his leadership agenda.
