EDITORIAL! Intelligence Failure: A Deadly Consequence

The recent suicide attack in Gwoza, which claimed scores of lives, is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of intelligence failure. The Senate’s prompt attribution of blame to intelligence agencies is a welcome move, but more needs to be done to address the systemic issues that led to this tragedy.
The attack, carried out by a female bomber, highlights the evolving nature of terrorism and the need for adaptive security measures. It is unacceptable that despite repeated warnings and incidents, our intelligence agencies failed to anticipate and prevent this attack.
We at Tegic Media condemn the attack in the strongest terms and urge the government to take concrete steps to revamp our intelligence gathering and sharing mechanisms. This includes investing in technology, enhancing interagency collaboration, and holding accountable those responsible for lapses.
The people of Nigeria deserve better. We demand action, not words. Tegic Media stands with the victims and their families, and demands improved intelligence gathering and security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
