Bye-Election: With Kasco’s Mighty Endorsement, NNPP’s Kiyawa Eyes Landslide Win

Written by Timothy Aiyeku

BAGWAI, KANO STATE — In a political masterstroke set to reshape the Bagwai/Shanono race, influential elder statesman and Nigeria National People’s Party, NNPP caucus chairman, Alhaji Musa Ibrahim Kasco, has thrown his weight behind Dr. Ali Alasan Kiyawa for the August 16, 2025 by-election.

On the same day, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will also conduct a re-run in the Gari-Tsanyawa Constituency.

Kasco, a stalwart of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the man credited with sustaining its dominance in Bagwai, has given Kiyawa what analysts are calling a decisive advantage.

“This is not just about politics; it is about the future of our people,” Kasco told journalists.
He added, “Dr. Kiyawa has the experience, vision, and passion to drive real change for our constituency.”

Dr. Kiyawa, a former councillor and ex-Director of the Kano State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Madobi, welcomed the endorsement with gratitude.

“I consider this a mandate from the people and a call to service. I will work to ensure effective representation and community-driven development,” he said.

The by-election is shaping into a fierce battle, with Abdullahi Ahmad Kadamu flying the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag. Political watchers say Kasco’s unmatched grassroots influence, coupled with the Kwankwasiyya network, could tilt the contest heavily in NNPP’s favour.

With campaign momentum ending, NNPP loyalists are confident of a sweeping win. “The people are ready, the movement is ready, and August 16 will prove it,” a jubilant supporter declared, hinting at what could become one of the most closely watched political showdowns in Kano’s recent history.
