Okoronkwo, Ajibade, Others Included as Falcons Dominate WAFCON’s best XI

Four Super Falcons players were named in the team of the tournament for the just concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Nigerian players included are Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie and Chaiamaka Nnadozie.
Ajibade was voted woman of the match in three of the Falcons’ six games en route to winning Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title. She was also named the best player in the competition.
Okoronkwo scored two goals and provided four assists throughout the tourney. She was also named the woman of the match in the final, where she scored and provided an assist.
Nnadozie was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament after keeping clean sheets in four of Nigeria’s six matches.
Alozie was ever-present for Nigeria at the right back, and her late winner against South Africa in the semi-final propelled the Falcons into the final.
Other players in the team of the tournament include Morocco’s Ghizzlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jraidi, as well as the South African trio of Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini, and Refiloe Jane. Ghana’s Portia Boakye and Grace Asantewaa complete the list.
On Saturday, Nigeria produced a dramatic 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final, emphasising Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
Morocco is also scheduled to host the next edition of the WAFCON.
