Minister of Works, Umahi Vows To Make All Federal Roads Motorable Before Christmas
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced that the federal government is making strides to ensure that all federal highways will be motorable by Christmas.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Akure, Ondo State, Umahi shared that the administration inherited over 2,000 unfinished road projects valued at trillions of naira, forcing the government to terminate contracts with several companies falling short of standards.
“We have terminated over 10 contracts of big companies, and we have the mind to terminate more,” Umahi stated firmly. “You can’t dictate to us; we will tell you what we want. Our books are very much open.”
During the meeting, he noted that federal road controllers across the country had been instructed to provide details on the condition of roads under their purview to accelerate the goal of having all federal roads motorable by the holiday season.
In addition, the minister touched on efforts to restore the Aiyetoro community, which has been severely impacted by sea incursion. He emphasized that both the federal and Ondo state governments are committed to seeing this project through.
“We are coming back after your election to start the Aiyetoro project,” Umahi promised. “Nigerians should be grateful that we have a listening president. He is committed to all sectors. This country still has a lot of potential.”
Umahi also announced that the 63-kilometer stretch of the Calabar-Lagos coastal highway in Ondo State would be inaugurated by December, with construction expected to begin immediately after the completion of its design in November.
