EDITORIAL! Call for Restraint: Suspending the Hunger Protests in the Interest of Progress

As we reflect on the events that transpired at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, Tegic Media cannot help but recall our plea to the EndSARS protesters to retreat and suspend their demonstrations. Our appeal was rooted in the knowledge that no protest can continue indefinitely without being broken by the State, a lesson learned from our own experiences in protests dating back to 1982.

In the same spirit, we now urge the organizers of the ongoing hunger protests to suspend their actions. The message has been delivered, and it is now time to await the implementation of the promises made by the President Bola Tinubu in his recent broadcast. While we understand the skepticism of many protesters, we believe that continued protests may only serve to undermine the progress made thus far.

Tegic Media salutes the resilience and determination of those who have participated in the hunger protests, but we must also consider the potential consequences of allowing these demonstrations to continue unchecked. We risk playing into the hands of anarchists with agendas that diverge from the true interests of the protesters.

Furthermore, we call on the security agencies to release all arrested protesters immediately. It is time for calm and reflection, not escalation and confrontation.

Let us work together to build a better future, rather than allowing the embers of discontent to smolder into uncontrollable flames. The time for restraint is now.
