Nigerian Correctional Service Releases Photos of Suleja Prison Escapees

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has released more photos of the inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State.

About 119 inmates fled from the correctional centre in April after rainfall destroyed the walls of the Suleja prison.

While 18 of the inmates were captured in June, the NCoS late Thursday post on its X account released the names of more escapees and their photos.

He gave their name as Tasiu Mohammed, Philip Ola, Mohammed Lawal, Buba Bello, Biyo Flamingo, Onyedikachi Emeka, Augustine Uden, Gambo Lamido, Sani Muhajid, Abubakar Hashiru, Haruna Salisu, Solomon Gkwangurum, and Aliyu Ismaila.

In the wake of the prison break, the Deputy Superintendent of Corrections Command Public Relations Officer (FCT Command)  Adamu Duza said mechanisms have been put in place to recapture the escapees, saying 13 of them had been retaken into custody.

“The Service has immediately activated its recapturing mechanisms, and in conjunction with sister security agencies have so far recaptured 10 fleeing inmates and taken them into custody, while we are in hot chase to recapture the rest,” he said.

The Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who visited the correctional centre, said the Federal Government is considering relocating it.

He said that the facility houses 499 inmates as opposed to the expected 250 that it was initially built for.
